Behold our nemesis.

Writer’s Block

The condition of being unable to think of what to write or how to proceed with writing.

Simple enough… but what are the causes?

Writer’s block may have several causes. Some are creative problems that originate within an author’s work itself. … Other blocks may be produced by adverse circumstances in a writer’s life or career: physical illness, depression, the end of a relationship, financial pressures, or a sense of failure.

But then some other person advises this:

“Writer’s block only lasts as long as you allow it to, which can often be days or even weeks if you don’t act on it and try these preventative and curing methods. Ultimately, the longer you put off dealing with the underlying causes of writer’s block, the longer it will last. So face your writer’s block head-on in order to get rid of it for good and get back to creating something that will resonate with people from all over.”

Well… fuck you pal.

Of course, that last person is actually selling something. Their magical course that will solve all your troubles, because you just can’t “Man Up” on your own.
Extra weird since it is a woman that is supposedly telling you to “Man UP”.

Sure, I’ll just face it. that will fix it.

While I am at it, I will stop being sick and in pain, stop being depressed, stop being poor and in debt. I’ll also stop mourning the death of my father too. Seriously dude, it been almost a year, what is your problem?

Moreover, I’ll stop failing.

Just like that, success all the way, that’s my new mantra.
Which is just as ridiculous as believing I am a failure.

I know I’m not a failure, not really. Failure is not only subjective, it is a conditional and momentary thing not a state of being. Just like being a success is. Ask any stereotypical washed up high school football player selling used cars or insurance because they never got their big break.

Maybe that’s a poor analogy.

Besides… look at what your anger at this stupid “just get over it” advice has done.

You just had to write about it… didn’t you?

… sneaky…

About Rick Wasserman

Here is my second round of blogging as my first round in Blog 1 seems to have evaporated. I have been writing for decades. Most of it is crap, but you probably figured that out on your own.
